Sandymount
The use of pure watercolour in this painting captures the wonderful feeling of open space when the tide goes out at Sandymount Strand. My favourite part of this piece is the industrial midground, with the iconic Poolbeg Chimneys–an integral part of the Dublin landscape–standing out in particular. The detail of this piece is achieved using very fine watercolour brushwork. The quote “Am I walking into eternity along Sandymount Strand?…” by James Joyce-from his iconic work, Ulysses-always comes to mind when I think of this painting.
